Quiz app, party game pack, hosted event or printable kit: which fits your work Christmas party?
Updated: 2026-10-20
Short answer: if nobody wants to host, book a hosted event. If everyone is remote and you want automatic scoring on phones, a live quiz app is the simplest. If one colleague is happy to host and you want something that works in the office, at a restaurant and on a video call, a ready-to-run kit with a quiz, answer sheets and games is the best value. Free printables are fine for a small team with time to prepare.
We make one of these options (the Team Party Kit), so we wrote down where each option is strong and where ours is not the right choice.
Which option fits which team?
- Free printables (quizzes and bingo cards from blogs): no cost. Good for small teams. You put rounds, answer sheets and scoring together yourself, which takes an evening.
- Live quiz apps such as Kahoot: players answer on their phones and scoring is automatic. Strong for remote and hybrid teams. Everyone needs a phone and a connection, and you write or pick the questions yourself.
- Party game packs such as Jackbox: polished, fast and very funny, players join on their phones. Best for groups that like loud games. Check each game's content settings before using it at work.
- Hosted events (virtual or on site, booked through an agency): a professional host runs everything. The least work for the organiser, usually priced per person and booked weeks ahead.
- Ready-to-run kits such as the Team Party Kit: an editable quiz deck with host notes, answer sheets, no-pressure games and a planner for a one-time price. Works offline at a restaurant, on a projector or over screen share. Someone from the team still hosts.
What should you check before choosing?
- Group size: printables and kits scale by printing more sheets, apps by player limits of your plan, hosted events by price per person.
- Location: a restaurant without reliable Wi-Fi rules out anything that needs every phone online.
- Host and prep time: who runs it, and do they have 30 minutes or a whole evening to prepare?
- Language: multilingual teams need content in more than one language.
- Budget: a one-time price versus a cost per head.
- Inclusion: nobody should have to perform alone, and every game should work without alcohol.
When is our kit not the right choice?
- When nobody in the team wants to host: a hosted event is worth the money then.
- When you need a fully automatic phone game with no host at all: use a quiz app or a party game pack.
- If you are unsure, try the free demo round of our browser quiz show before you decide.
Host tips
- Plan one main game (a quiz), one background game (bingo or secret missions) and one short loud moment. More feels like a program.
- Test the setup on the real screen or the real video tool a day before.
- Need questions for any option? Our free 10-question Christmas quiz PDF works with all of them.
FAQ
What is the easiest game option for an office Christmas party?
For the organiser, a hosted event. For a team that has one willing host, a ready-to-run quiz kit or a quiz app takes the least preparation.
What works best for a work Christmas party at a restaurant?
Anything that runs on paper or one screen: a team quiz with answer sheets, people bingo or secret missions. Avoid games that need every phone online.
Is a quiz app or a printable quiz better for remote teams?
Both work. Apps score automatically on phones; a quiz deck shared on screen with answers sent in the chat or a form needs nothing installed.
